‘If you believe in Christian Science …’

- What Membership in The Mother Church means to me

Many years ago, I was newly married, with a baby on the way, and my husband was in the military, stationed in Iceland for a year. He wasn’t scheduled to come home until the baby would be nine months old.

One day, I saw a notice in The Christian Science Journal, saying, in essence, “If you believe in Christian Science, it may be time to unite with The Mother Church.” I may not remember now the exact words, but whatever they were, that is how I saw them.

The message touched my heart. I immediately responded, “Yes, I believe.” I sent off my application for membership in The Mother Church and was thrilled to be accepted at the next admission of new members. This came at just the right time for me. I went from feeling loneliness and separation to being embraced “within the wide channels of The Mother Church” (Church Manual, p. 45).
