GEMS

From the December 1883 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"No wise man ever wished to be younger.

There are moments when the heart wakens from a sleep to find itself alone in the dark.

He that loseth his conscience has nothing that is left worth keeping.

Who cannot keep his own secret ought not to complain if another tells it.

The greatest truths are the simplest, and so are the greatest men.

There is a modesty in pure desires after excellence, which affectation can never counterfeit.

Few things are necessary for the wants of this life, but it takes an infinite number to satisfy the demands of opinion.

People seldom love those who withstand their prejudices, and endeavor to control their passions.
