Poems

HEAVENWARD

From the November 1884 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Let progress mark the footsteps
Of Science grand and strong.
" Truth bringeth forth her increase,"
Will be the victor's song.

Unconscious of the glories
Beaming in Love divine,
We walk this earth in darkness,
Instead of God's sunshine.

We think of Him as person.
In lieu of Spirit, Mind,
Which fills all space around us
As Principle divine.

A Principle unchanging,
Our only Truth and Life,
Intelligence that governs
'Midst all the mortal strife.

By truest understanding
Disease and sin are healed,
Bringing in closer contact
Glories to be revealed.

Then to this understanding
The Spirit calls you now,
And bright will be the jewels
He places on your brow.
