THE CLERGY vs. TRUTH

From the June 1885 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"Puritanical intolerance is not so obsolete as has been supposed," is the comment of one of our dailies, in noting the remarks of the clergy at a recent meeting in Boston. It was admitted by some of the reverend gentlemen, that healing was wrought by Christian Science, but they denied the Christianity of it. Thanks be to God, the power of Truth is just as mighty as though these reverends had not decided against it. Have not many of them seen its Christianizing results in their own families?

One speaks of it as a humbug, and says with the practitioners it is a "grand squable for money-getting." Are there not thousands of people in Boston and suburbs who know they have been healed for nothing, or at a very small expense?

Another clergyman makes the assertion that diplomas have been fraudulently granted the students at some former time. The Massachusetts Metaphysical College, nor any order connected with it has ever given a diploma.
