"CAN WE BY SEARCHING FIND OUT GOD?"

From the March 1887 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It has been said, "that we by searching cannot find God." One thing it is very evident we can do; we can understand, in part, at least, our relation to Him.

In considering this subject, if it is possible for us to learn how to be good and do good, we shall feel that our time has been profitably spent. Many of us, I apprehend, have erroneous ideas in regard to God. We often worship ignorantly, and we are frequently told that it is wrong for us to investigate and satisfy ourselves, as best we can, "What and where God is."

Now, I do not claim perfection, or that I have made greater advancement than many others about me, or many that have preceded me, but having been fed with the everlasting Bread of Life, which has given me so much comfort, my joy and real happiness, in sickness and sorrow, I feel it a duty to assist others at solving the problem, that, at times, seems difficult and mysterious. By striving to help others we may improve our own condition. Understanding the true source of all power is an incentive to work in the right direction, to promote peace, Love and Truth among men. Can any one deny that earnest work is necessary among all classes of people at the present time? Have we sufficient peace, Love and Truth in our several communities?
