One year ago last July during the very hot weather, my youngest boy. thirteen years of age, was kicked by a horse, and his left leg broken just above the knee. The end of the bone pointing downward was pushed to the left making an ugly sharp lump just above the knee. The foot turned in. making almost a triangle of the limb. A surgeon attended to the surgical part, while I worked metaphysically for the lad. The surgeon, after making an examination of the limb, said, "Now, my boy, it will be necessary for you to lie on your back four, or perhaps six weeks, since your leg is broken in a very dangerous place, being so near the knee.
The accident occurred on Saturday; on Monday, a week following, the boy stood on both feet, and moved about the house during the rest of the week when he cared to do so, using a chair as support when he needed it. On Saturday just two weeks after the breaking of the limb, he went to the front porch, where he had been a number of times before during the week, and where I supposed he would stop; in a few minutes, he called me from the side window, and in a short time came into the house through the back door, using for a cane a golf club, which he had picked up in the yard while going round the house. He walked two or three blocks again that evening, and that was the last of his trouble. The next morning he was out playing golf, and from that time on he engaged in games common to all boys. He started to school the first of September with only the faintest show of a limp, which he soon forgot. Although the heat was so intense the bone knit without pain and with very little inflammation.
Quick or blood consumption, which attacked my daughter, —then sixteen years of age, —with such stealth and rapidity that we did not recognize the monster belief, was overcome in a reasonable length of time with the help of a faithful practitioner. She is one of the strongest and most healthy looking young women I know at the present time. It has been about six years since this illness.
