It was some years ago that Christian Science was first brought to my notice. I seemed to be suffering greatly with my eyes, was being treated by a specialist, who obliged me to put on glasses, told me that I should always have to wear them, and warned me to be very careful not to use my eyes for any close work.
The thought of having to wear glasses was very distasteful to me, and one day while calling on a friend the subject was brought up. My friend had been obliged to use two pairs of glasses for different purposes. She said to me, "Suppose we try Christian Science; we will say nothing of it to any one, and then if we are not helped none will be the wiser. We immediately went to a practitioner and had our first treatment. I asked when I should call again, and the reply was, "You may not need another treatment." That seemed rather strange to me, since I had been going to the specialists every two or three days for a long time. However, I took four treatments and was perfectly healed, took off my glasses, and have never worn them since. That was eleven years ago.
Since that time Christian Science has been a great help to me and my family in many ways. It has brought us through cases of croup, measles, pneumonia, catarrh, grip, and many minor ailments, and for this deliverance we are truly thankful. I can now read my Bible with pleasure and understanding, whereas, before coming to Christian Science, it was like so much Greek. I am very grateful to Mrs. Eddy, who has shown us the way, to all those who have helped me onward and upward, and who have proved to me that we have a God who can help us always.
