Testimonies of Healing

Fourteen years ago I was healed through Christian Science

From the November 1907 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Fourteen years ago I was healed through Christian Science. From childhood I had been subject to serious throat trouble every few weeks, until in later years the doctors pronounced it chronic, said that it affected my whole system, and that the only relief they could give me was by periodically operating on my throat. Besides this I had organic trouble and was not able to stand perfectly erect. I had also become melancholy and hardly considered life worth living. In my darkest hour of need a dear friend who had become interested in Christian Science asked me to try it, and I informed her that when everything else failed I would do so. A few weeks from that time I was in bed again, expecting to undergo the same operation, which was becoming more critical at each recurring attack. I then sent to this friend for the help she had offered, and arose the next day from my bed, healed from all my bodily troubles; also healed mentally. Life took on a different aspect, and I was free.

I had been brought up in an orthodox church, and was a member and active worker for years. I loved the church and its teachers, and never regret the thorough instruction I received in its Sunday School, where we were taught to study the Bible and to memorize the Ten Commandments and the Sermon on the Mount; but I never gained the spiritual sense of these until after I was healed in Christian Science and took up the study of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy.

In the past fourteen years I have not been ill one day, and my health has been maintained by the study of God's word as found in the Bible, and in its "Key," Science and Health. I had a family of four, my youngest child being six months old when I was healed. It was then thought I would never raise him, but he is now past fourteen years, a big strapping fellow, never had medicine, and better still, has not needed it, never having had a day's illness. God, divine Love, has been the only physician in our home all these years, and has never failed us. In trying to express my gratitude to God, who has given Christian Science to this age through our beloved Leader, words are inadequate. I can only prove my love and gratitude for her pureness of life, the brave and noble womanhood that enabled her to perceive this truth and demonstrate it to a waiting, sin-sick world, by following her example. Jesus said, "If ye love me, keep my commandments."—
