A little over six years ago a friend told me some things about Christian Science, but I could not see anything of any interest in it for me at that time — I was not ready. Three years later I saw my way clear to accept its teachings. I was supposed to be under a law of hereditary stomach trouble, and was in great distress at times for about twelve years. I had doctored with several prominent physicians, and tried a good many remedies without any permanent relief. In June, 1903, I was taken home from the store in which I was employed in a semi-conscious condition. A physician was called, and after a little while I received some relief, but by the next evening I decided to take no more medicine. The following morning I was not able to go to work, so I borrowed a copy of Science and Health from a kind neighbor and began to read the chapter on "Prayer;" and there I found the truth that healeth all our diseases. It seemed as though the healing stood out on every page. I had read for a little over an hour when I felt a sense of freedom; I was healed, and I knew it!
I began at once to study Science and Health in connection with the Bible, and to attend Christian Science services. I have missed none since, when it was possible for me to attend. I had also been a slave to the cigarette habit; I drank some, chewed tobacco, and was very profane. All of these errors have entirely left me, and without my "swearing off." I have found that the way to keep from sinning is to quit sinning. To say I am grateful is not sufficient. My daily desire is to prove my gratitude by reflecting love. My wife took up the study at the same time I did, and we have learned that Christian Science is a very good thing to have in the home, as we have three children and there has been no medicine used in our family for over three years. We have proved the power of Christian Science many times, and it has never failed.
My heart is full of gratitude to Mrs. Eddy, who has proven that all things are possible with God. I hope to be faithful over a few things, knowing that thus I shall be made ruler over many things.
