Testimonies of Healing

Before coming into Science six years ago I was a complete...

From the September 1907 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Before coming into Science six years ago I was a complete physical wreck. I had severe nervous trouble and was compelled to give up my work. For a year I was in bed, unable most of the time to help myself, and for weeks at a time could not even lift food or water to my lips. My friends thought, and so did I, that my passing on was a matter of a very short time. All my life I had suffered from rheumatic trouble, which at times would render me so helpless that I could not walk. I did not know what it was to be free from pain, and could not sleep without an opiate, though after a while even that failed to have any effect. I had always been subject to throat trouble, the attacks lasting two weeks or more. My father (a physician) said it would have to run its course unless checked in the earliest stages, which it never was by medicine. I have had three different physicians say that it was one of the worst looking throats they had ever examined.

A friend gave me a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and I began reading it. Through the truth revealed in this book I have been freed from the ills above mentioned, and many others. My healing was slow, though the improvement was marked from the time I began the study of Science. One friend said. "You look so much better. Are you taking a new kind of medicine?" I said, "Yes, the medicine of mind, and my improvement is the result." A lady who was in the habit of visiting me, and who afterwards told me she never expected to see me up again, said, "I heard that you were getting well, and I told my husband that if you got well I would believe that the dead could be resurrected." To-day I rejoice in health and strength, and I have advanced in weight from ninety-five pounds to one hundred and thirty-five pounds.

If Christian Science had done nothing more for me than to give me a different concept of God, I would be thankful even for that. I have been able to demonstrate the power of Truth for myself, by following the teachings of Mrs. Eddy's book. I am a member of The Mother Church and I am thankful to God, and to Mrs. Eddy for Christian Science.
