The day has come when I am able to testify to the good I have received through Christian Science. Just about a year ago I was led to Christian Science, and when I now look back upon the many former years I feel very much ashamed that I paid so little heed to spiritual things. In my childhood I believed in a God, but in later years, after I came to this country, I neglected my duties to Him. yet He, my best friend, always watched over me. I traveled downward; one trouble after another came upon me, and my mistakes rose like mountains before me. The burden seemed hard to bear; I believed my only redemption was in death; as all earthly friends had forsaken me. Then came the best of friends,—the "Friend of the friendless" (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 399), who led me, and in my sorrowful condition I was willing to accept His guidance, which brought me to Christian Science.
I am unable to describe the feeling that came over me when I was in a Christian Science meeting for the first time. I had never heard of it before and had not the slightest idea of what it was when it was offered to me. After the meeting I had an interesting conversation with one of the Readers, which gave me new courage, and from that hour on I have adhered to the truth, for which I thank God. I bought a Bible (formerly I had none in my home), and I feel to-day that I am born anew. Trouble and sorrow have disappeared and I am happy. The Bible, and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, are my daily guides. I soon became a member of the local Christian Science church.
I have also been healed of supposedly incurable catarrhal trouble, from which I had suffered for about twenty years and for which I was always at great expense for doctors and medicine. I had lost my sense of smell for about eight years, but it has been restored to me. I have also been enabled to leave off my glasses, which I had worn for four years because the physician had said that I was becoming blind in my right eye. I am truly grateful for all the good I have received, and I know that every one can receive the same blessing if they are only willing to accept the truth.
