I attended my first Christian Science service in San Antonio, Tex., and enjoyed it so much that I purchased a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and with the Bible began its study for spiritual healing, as this was the part that interested me and seemed so very beautiful. I believed Christian Science to be the truth, and loved it. I studied the text-book closely for eight or ten months, when I realized that I was healed physically. I had suffered several years with a severe stomach trouble and with headache, and was told by my physician that I had an internal growth. He said that nothing but the knife could relieve me, and that he would have to build up my constitution before he could perform the operation. It has been ten years since I began the reading of the Christian Science text-book, and I have never had a return of any of these troubles and no sign of the growth. I have enjoyed perfect health, and have never taken any medicine or used material remedies in any form.
When I was very young in Science we moved to Monterey, Mex., and soon afterward there was an epidemic of yellow fever. I was attacked by the disease, but was healed in one night by clinging to God with all my understanding of Christian Science. My husband was next attacked, and I wired to a practitioner in Texas for absent treatment, through which he was healed in less than a week. Then my daughter was affected; she would not have absent treatment, but did not want a physician and insisted that I should treat her. I did so, and she was healed in a few days. I have since passed through an epidemic of another dreaded disease, sitting by the bedside of sufferers without any fear. I feared these two diseases more than anything else before coming into Christian Science. I have lived in Mexico, away from any church or Scientists, and have had many trials to meet, but have always found God a very present help in times of trouble.
I want to thank the publishers for the Journal and Sentinel; they have been a great help to me. I feel grateful indeed for the physical healing, but much more thankful for the spiritual, as I can now worship God understandingly. For all this I am thankful to God, and to our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy. My one desire is to live so as to be worthy to be called a Christian Scientist.
