Christian Science has come into my life with such a large measure of good works, and has changed so many of the former conditions of discord, that I wish to add my testimony and sound a note of praise for this truth as a blessing to humanity. Four years ago Christian Science was brought to my attention through friends, and I was induced to buy the text-book, Science and Health, and to read it. A short time after this I stumbled and fell. I never knew just what happened, but there seemed to be an internal injury, and the pain was so intense that I could not move. The thought of God as "a very present help in trouble" came to me, and I thought of Him then as I never had before in my life. A change began at once, and very soon the pain disappeared, together with the fear, and there was no soreness afterwards. This was my first demonstration, and it slowly dawned upon me that I had proven God as a healing power almost before I dared hope for such proof. I followed up this experience with harder study and more of it, and soon found that an extreme nervousness and irritability was disappearing, and with it much of a disposition which by some was termed surly and ill-natured.
Early in the winter of 1904 I experienced relief from bowel trouble of ten years' standing, and from that time on the old condition has never returned. Up to this time I had received no direct treatment, although I realize now that through infinite patience and many kind efforts, which I reciprocated but poorly, I did gain from others much help to a better understanding of Christian Science. On the day after Christmas of this same year I asked for help in an acute attack of illness, and was healed in one treatment, all of the aches and pains being destroyed at once. Soon after this experience I found that on Sunday morning and Wednesday evening I could do without my glasses, although I had worn them for five years for a condition which my oculist told me could not be remedied, and which would grow worse with time and necessitate my giving up my office work and seeking some other line of employment. In February I sought help for a case of stomach trouble,' and that and my need for glasses were met completely at the same time.
These are the works of Christian Science during my first year's investigation and experience, but above all of these physical benefits do I regard the spiritual regeneration which has accompanied them. Christian Science has given me higher ideals in life, and taught me that their realization is possible here and now. With every healing has come a deeper understanding of God and His creation, as well as of a more Godlike man and his true relation to God. These changes have come to me only as I have been willing to change, only as I have been willing to give up a belief in a God who did not heal, and when I accepted instead the Christian Science concept of a God who can and does heal. Every day I am proving in a larger way this truth to be universally applicable to man's every need.
