Christian Science healing was first brought to my attention through taking a medical patient to a Christian Science practitioner for healing, after all material means had failed. During a period of eight years I had seen the patient suffer physically and mentally from an incurable disease according to materia medica. Curiosity to know what there is in Christian Science which heals patients, prompted me to read Science and Health, and I now see that I received great benefit from the beginning, as one of the greatest and most helpful changes came in freedom from a medical law to which I had been in bondage several years. I stood in this city for materia medica, as a graduate nurse of the Johns Hopkins Hospital, for thirteen years. Five years ago, when I first began to read Christian Science literature, my mental and physical condition was such that I was almost unable to continue my work, as a medical opinion is held that nurses are able to remain in active service only a certain number of years. This dictum was at once put aside, and I remained in the nursing work three years longer, while studying the letter of Christian Science. Life then seemed very different! I had more intelligence, more endurance, patience, and faithfulness in my work than ever before.
During the second year of this period two cases of instantaneous healing from great physical suffering, after reading a few lines of Science and Health, were convincing proofs of the truth contained in that book. Later I was healed in one treatment of poisoning from eating a fungus growth in mushrooms, and it was during this healing that I realized how thoroughly my faith in material remedies had been destroyed. From that time I made "rapid progress out of my old profession into the true Christ-healing. .The case of so-called incurable disease, above mentioned, was one well known to several of the most prominent physicians of this country. The patient has been perfectly and permanently healed in Christian Science. He is now an earnest, active business man, a devout Christian Scientist, and is daily living far more than a verbal expression of gratitude. For this healing I am exceedingly grateful, as the patient was one near and dear to me.
This testimony is given in glad acknowledgment of the one great Physician, of Jesus the Christ, and of our Leader, Mrs.. Eddy, through whom this truth has come to the world for the relief of suffering humanity. Baltimore, Md.
