I desire to express my deep sense of gratitude for the many blessings I have received through Christian Science. It is just four years since this truth was brought to me. I was then suffering from a complication of diseases, with which I had been afflicted for many years,—rheumatic, bronchial, and heart trouble, in fact it was the doctor's written testimony that I had not a sound organ in my body, and I had lost the sight of one eye. I was very miserable and considerably crippled with the rheumatic trouble, from which I had suffered for over fifteen years. At times I was wrapped in cotton-wool and not able to move a joint. I had been treated by many doctors, tried all kinds of remedies, baths, etc.,—everything that was suggested to ine,—but gradually got worse. In fact I was a physical wreck, and was given no hope of recovery by the doctors.
A dear friend who came to see me, asked me to try Christian Science, though she was not a Scientist herself. She said it would do me no harm, even if it did no good. She knew I had tried all kinds of things, and was very anxious that I should get help in some way. I decided to do as she wished, for I was glad to try anything that offered me help. My friend went to see a practitioner, who called on me, and I began to have treatment. From the first I felt that I was going to be healed, and I began gradually to improve. My healing came very slowly, but I am very grateful for this now, as it made me strive more earnestly to gain a knowledge of the truth that makes free, through the study of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy.
I am very grateful indeed for the physical healing, but I am more grateful for the spiritual help,—for a better understanding of the Bible and of a God who is Love and gives His children all good. I am now perfectly strong and well, and since being healed have never had to miss a day from the mill, where I work, through ill health. The sight is also coming back to my eye. All this is due to Christian Science, as I have taken no medicine or used material remedies of any kind since knowing of it. My heart goes out in thankfulness to God, and to Mrs. Eddy, and I am so grateful for the kindness and patience with which I have been helped and encouraged. My one desire is to gain more and more understanding, that I may be able to help others as I have been helped. Manchester, Eng.
