I write my testimony in grateful thanks for what Christian Science has done for me, and I hope that through it I may be able to reflect a little ray of good to some one in return for the great amount of good which has been reflected to me. On the twenty-first day of June, 1907, Christian Science found me—an invalid, given up to die by several physicians. Previous to this time I had been ill for a year; not all the time in bed, but always miserable, having suffered all my life from heart trouble in a more or less active form. I had traveled all over the world, and physicians of every country had treated me, yet scarcely two diagnosed my case alike. All said I had heart trouble, but each one had a different decision to render and a different remedy to offer. Just before my healing in Christian Science two physicians of different schools had advised my husband to send me immediately to the coast, with the hope of prolonging my life. My heart at that time gave me great trouble, its action being supposedly kept up by frequent and very strong doses of a poisonous drug.
Christian Science had been offered me twice before, but each time I had scoffed at the suggestion and refused its help. On the day before mentioned, however, it came to me in the form of several copies of the Journal and Sentinel and some pamphlets, which were brought me by one who had not accepted Christian Science. This gentleman, who had known me from my infancy, came to my bedside and said, "I can't understand this, but maybe there is something in it that will help you." He laid the books down, and the pamphlet, "Healing through Christian Science" by Judge Septimus J. Hanna, was the first to meet my gaze. As I noticed this pamphlet the word "Healing"' seemed illuminated; and what a vista of joy it opened up to me few can imagine.
I thought a while, and then I called my little girl and asked her to hand me the book. I read it carefully through. The thought of the miracles of Christ and other Bible healing was not new to me, but I read on and finished the pamphlet. Not seeming to get any light or peace, I started in to read it again from the beginning; and while I was reading the first section, the healing of the man sick with palsy, as given in the second chapter of Mark, came to me, and suddenly I seemed to hear a voice saying to me, "Arise, take up thy bed and walk," and I knew instantly that the Christ was with me and that I was healed. I obeyed the command. Getting out of bed quickly, I went to the kitchen and told the friend who was staying with me that I was well. She thought I had gone mad, and so did my husband when he came home, but I knew that I was completely healed. I have had the very best of health and spiritual happiness ever since. From that memorable day I read everything on Christian Science I could get hold of. It was some weeks before I knew there was a Christian Science society here in Goldfield, but as soon as I learned this I began to attend the services regularly. I also bought a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and began to study it earnestly. I must mention, that at the time of my healing of heart trouble my eyes were also healed—my glasses were simply forgotten; in fact, my physical healing was complete.
