I am very grateful that I have found Christian Science...

From the September 1909 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I am very grateful that I have found Christian Science. One Wednesday morning I awoke to find myself entirely helpless. My mother had come in as usual to waken me, and seeing my condition she became greatly alarmed. I asked her to go to a Christian Scientist and get treatment for me. She did so, and I soon felt great relief. In the afternoon a lady from the place where I worked called, and told me I should send in an attestation by a physician, so as to excuse my staying away from business. My mother then sent for a physician, who came in the evening. After having examined me he said that I was suffering from a paralytic attack, and that I had better make up my mind to stay in bed for three months. I told him that I hoped it would not be so long as that.

On Saturday forenoon I got up, with the help of my mother, but was taken with violent nausea. Then I felt entirely free, and stayed up until evening. On the next day, Sunday, my mother went to church to take word to the Scientist who was treating me. In the mean time I got up and deliberately prepared the dinner for the family, and when they came home everything stood ready on the table. Naturally there was great joy to see me restored so quickly, for there was no trace of the disease. In the afternoon I tried to go downstairs, but had an attack of weakness. The next day, however, I was freed from this weakness, and on Wednesday I went to see the physician. He greeted me and said, "Well, how is the patient getting along?" I told him that I was the patient whom he had seen. He was very much astonished and said, "This is wonderful! I called at your home a week ago, and you were helpless, were you not?" He examined my joints, moved them and said, "I wish all my patients could be healed as quickly." The illness lasted only from Wednesday till Saturday, and not three months!

Besides this I took off a supporter which I had been wearing day and night, according to the physician's advice. Before coming to Christian Science I had submitted to an operation, and as the wound did not heal I was advised by the physician to wear this bandage, or else undergo a second operation; but Christian Science has saved me from that ordeal. Through the word of Truth I have been freed from the bondage of hereditary taint and throat trouble, and have been blessed in my business also. In Christian Science I have found divine Love,—Love that blesses, purifies, inspires, and heals. Through the study of our Lesson-Sermons, in connection with the Bible and Science and Health, it becomes more and more clear to me that we have indeed the truth which frees us of all that is unlike God. I am very thankful to God, and also to our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy.— .
