I desire to make acknowledgment, through the Journal...

From the September 1909 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I desire to make acknowledgment, through the Journal, of the healing of our oldest son about two years ago. His father was hoisting dirt from a well by means of a large derrick, and my son was standing near the well when the wire ropes broke, letting the derrick fall. A telephone pole which fell with the derrick struck him a slanting stroke on the head and body, and he was thrown on some rocks and rendered insensible. His father ran to him and picked him up, and although every one who saw him said, "Oh, he is killed!" my husband declared the truth for him. Some of the men wanted to get a doctor, but my husband asked them to wait awhile, and soon my son began to recover consciousness, and they put him in a wagon and brought him home. I began at once to declare the truth of being, that no accident can happen to God and His ideas. I found he was badly bruised, and suffering with pain in the head and body, but I continued to declare the truth and soon he became quiet and went to sleep. When he awoke lie seemed to have no recollection of the experience. We explained the situation, and worked silently for him, all inquiring friends being kept out of his room. The accident happened early in the morning, and in the afternoon he got out of bed. dressed himself, and walked out on the porch and sat up quite a while, which was a surprise to every one.

It was not long till he was up and around, though he had an uneasy sense or nervousness which disturbed him at night, and he could not rest or sleep; so I continued to work for him, even after he went back to his business. A severe pain was felt at times where two ribs had been broken, and soon internal injuries were evidenced by the passage of quantities of blood. I had been away some weeks when my daughter wrote me that I had better come home, as her brother was feeling very ill, and I found him straightening up his business affairs, for he thought he was not going to be with us very long. I told him that we must go to work more earnestly than ever, and if we were unable to bring out the demonstration we would get another practitioner. So we went to work, and it was not long till every difficulty had been overcome, and today he is as well as he ever was. The healing was slow but sure, and we feel very thankful indeed to know that the understanding of the truth does overcome error

We have had many other fine demonstrations of Truth over error, in our own family and for many others. I am most grateful to our beloved Leader, and to all who have helped me to gain an understanding of the truth revealed through Christian Science.
