One of the greatest blessings of my life was to move next door to a Christian Scientist, for even before I knew she was one I felt the influence and healing power of her understanding of Truth. About four weeks after learning that she was a follower of Christian Science I was gradually led to take it up for myself. Shortly after moving there a little girl was born to me, and she early manifested a serious bowel trouble for which my older child had been under the physician's care almost constantly since birth. As she had not been healed, I had little faith in taking the baby to him.
One morning I was led to take both children over to my neighbor's house. She read to me from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and the older child was at once healed of this trouble. I did not know it then, but the trouble has never reappeared. In a few days a practitioner was secured for the baby. I myself was in great mental and physical discomfort, and at the practitioner's second visit I was healed of a repulsive form of catarrh from which I had suffered since childhood. For financial reasons my husband thought we could have no more treatments; but I had purchased a copy of the text-book, and with many loving words of encouragement from the practitioner I began to study it. I was soon able to demonstrate some of its beautiful teachings, and discords began to disappear. The baby was healed of sore eyes and colic, and we were all made to feel more free. My husband had a severe injury to his hand, and as soon as he got word to me I took up the study of "Miscellaneous Writings." The bleeding stopped, and although he used the hand in writing all day, it was healed perfectly in a few days.
After I had been studying for about eight months, the baby was healed of the bowel disorder, and (his condition has never been manifested in any of our family since. An attack of toothache was overcome in less than an hour through treatment. By faithfully reading Science and Health and demonstrating what I knew of Truth, my husband was healed in one afternoon of measles. It was necessary that he be examined by a doctor two days later, before he could go back to work, and the physician told him that he could see he had been sick, and thought that the children would come down also; but this was prevented by the truth. One time when I seemed to be very ill wit a trouble in my head, we telephoned to another practitioner, as we could not reach the one who had helped us before, and I was almost instantly healed by absent treatment. I have had one child born under Science treatment, and she has excellent health.
