My heart overflows with gratitude for the blessings which Christian Science daily brings to me. Five years ago I was helpless and hopeless, and in my extremity turned to this truth for relief. Today I am restored to a life of usefulness and have a growing knowledge of God.
I was a great sufferer from colds and throat trouble in a severe form, and was healed of these ills in a few weeks' treatment. A bowel disorder and rheumatism were two more ailments from which I suffered, and I was in a very discouraged state when I turned to Christian Science for help. I had doctored with several physicians, one telling me that the bowel trouble was mental; but he did not tell me how I could be healed, nor could I understand this, as it was supposed to be an inherited condition. As time went on I grew worse, until every part of my body was affected and I was a great sufferer. I had an intense fear of being an invalid, knowing that if the disease were not soon checked it would be necessary for me to be wheeled in a chair. Conditions were already such that a portion of the time it was necessary for me to be assisted in walking, or in rising from a chair, etc.
My healing in Christian Science seemed slow, but after constant work on my part, and encouragement and help from a faithful practitioner for four years and a half, I can truthfully say that I am healed. During this time I took class instruction, and soon after returning home, these words of Jesus the Christ, "If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free," were verified in my experience. My father began to study Christian Science when I did, and was greatly benefited. He had been a member of an honored body of Christians for many years, and was a member of the official board at the time he withdrew, that both of us might unite with the Church of Christ, Scientist, where we then lived. A great trial came to my father, which resulted in a helpless physical condition, but through Christian Science treatment he was perfectly healed.
