Testimonies of Healing

I am glad to tell my experience in Christian Science, but...

From the November 1911 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I am glad to tell my experience in Christian Science, but the benefits received are without number and I can only give a small portion. I had been a semiinvalid for over twenty years, for several months had only been able to walk to and from my bed to a chair, and at times I suffered intensely. I had several physicians, went to a hospital, and finally to two specialists. The last one told my husband that I must have two operations, but that I was too ill to go into a hospital then. He wrote my home physician what to do, but I only took the treatment about four days.

During this time a relative had brought me a Christian Science Sentinel, which lay around for a week or more before I read it: but one day I wanted something to read, and picked up this, and it was just the thing I needed to set my mind at rest. I had been prejudiced against Christian Science because I did not understand the terms used, but after reading this paper I was anxious to know more and had several copies brought to me. There was no Scientist within at least twenty-five miles, and I did not know of any at that time, as these few copies of the Sentinel had been left in the town some time before by a visiting Scientist. I sent for "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy and commenced to read it. A few days after this I took off glasses that I had worn about eight years for defective vision, one oculist having told me that mine was the worst case that had ever come to him. This was in February, 1906, and I have never worn glasses since.

The trouble first mentioned seemed to be getting worse, and I tried to think as to how I was going to get help. I found in the back of Science and Health that there were Christian Science practitioners, and that many people were healed by God through them; but where to find one puzzled me. I then turned to God, and knew that He would show me the way. It came to me to look in the telephone directory and see if there were Christian Science rooms in any of the towns near, and I found that there were. I wrote, addressing my letter to these rooms, and found a practitioner through the kindness of those in charge. I had three weeks' treatment, but did not seem to get any better. A relative in a western city then wished me to try a friend there, so I had two weeks more of treatment, when my practitioner asked me to try some one nearer home. She advised me to go to another city, so I wrote and engaged a practitioner there. In about twenty-one days I commenced to walk, and from that time on I gained slowly but steadily.
