Testimonies of Healing

From the November 1911 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I give this testimony with the hope that it may aid and encourage some one afflicted as I was and in need of the assurance that "with God all things are possible." Some years ago, Christian Science was brought to my notice through the interest manifested by my wife and the benefits she received therefrom, which were many. . I was not then in. need of physical help, never having been sick since quite a small lad, but I did have need of help — divine help.

My need was one of great importance. For many years I had been a constant user of whisky and other intoxicating beverages, and many times to excess. The habit grew and took such root that it was ruining both myself and family. I sought help in Christian Science, and was much benefited. I then thought that I was healed and did not need Science help any longer. I began to rely on my own strength, and the consequence was that I fell, and from that time things commenced to go down hill with me. I lost positions, and went from bad to worse. My good wife in all this trial was praying and working with me to save me from the depths of sin in which I was fast sinking. Along with my wife in this fight that she was waging in my behalf was another good and noble woman, a Christian Science practitioner who counseled and encouraged her in her struggle, and when the proper time came the error was uncovered, laid bare, and I was receptive of the fruits of this battle.

This was over three years ago. The Scientist came to my aid clad in the armor of Love, armed with the sword of Truth, and she led me as a mother would her child, from the dangers of the sin which beset me back to the loving Father's arms, which are now around and about me, shielding me from all error. Since that time I have been perfectly healed of the desire for drink; also I have learned what God is, and I have been made a better man, a better father and husband.
