Testimonies of Healing

I long to express my gratitude for the great blessings...

From the November 1911 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I long to express my gratitude for the great blessings received in Christian Science. After much suffering I was sent in the spring of 1910 to Switzerland to get rid of a cough which was exceedingly painful to me, also an internal trouble from which I. had suffered in a gradually increasing way for more than six years. I had the best medical advice, and am grateful to my physician for his careful and untiring help. Although life was a burden, I did my best to conceal my trials from others, but my great desire to begin regular work was constant.

In Switzerland a friend spoke to me about Christian Science. This friend talked with much reverence about the Science, but I thought it would mean nothing to me, as I could not accept the idea of a creator who was omnipotent and who did not destroy or prevent sorrow and suffering, all discord. Christian Science has, however, dispelled for me all uncertainty, all my vain yearning and seeking; has shown me that God is good, that nothing but good awaits us if we understand and trust God; that we are safe in infinite Love.

Faith in the good will of my friend, who urged me to read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," by Mrs. Eddy, made me take up this book. I would not disappoint her love by not responding to her advice. I bought the book, but did not comprehend much. To read this metaphysical thought in a foreign language was not easy for me. My head seemed very heavy because of the internal trouble, which was worse at that time, so I thought that I must either return to the hospital in Holland or that Christian Science must help me. I chose the latter, and wrote for help to a practitioner in Geneva. After about ten days' treatment, mostly absent, the internal disease was healed. Where formerly each step was a burden, I could now climb from one place to another in the mountains, and walk down without any bad feeling. The distress in the head belongs to the past, and while the cough yielded but slowly, it also disappeared.
