[Written for the Journal]

TODAY

From the March 1912 issue of The Christian Science Journal

O may I bring a willing heart
To every simple task;
O may I pluck the thought of self
From every boon I ask.
May I preserve a simple faith
Amid life's surge and stress,
Nor entertain a single sense
That shall not bless.

O may my heart a vessel be
Worthy of Truth's content;
May I in every blessing see
A boon divinely lent
That I may share it; spread afar
The seed of Truth revealed;
May loving thoughts my heart o'erflow,—
A spring unsealed.

O may I bring a fruitful life,
A thankful heart and meek,
For living waters, freely given
To them that ask and seek.
May I retain the joy of God,
My strength 'gainst every snare.
O may I live the truth I know,—
This is my prayer.
