As an expression of gratitude for Christian Science and the many blessings I have received through its ministrations, I submit the following testimony, with the hope that it may help any who are troubled as I was. The fear of hereditary lung trouble has been prevalent in our family for many generations. My mother was said to have died of this disease when I was but a young boy, and my brother of the same trouble when he was twenty-five years of age. I took care of him when he was ill, and had no conscious fear of contracting the disease, but after his death I began to be troubled with colds and some painful symptoms. This continued until 1906, when I started to have hemorrhages. I had been treated by nine physicians, and received only temporary benefit, although I am sure they did the very best they could for me, for which I feel most grateful, but at last I was told to go South for my health and never to come back to Wisconsin. After staying at Fort Worth, Texas, for about a month, I could see no improvement, so decided to cross the state to El Paso, with the hope that the higher altitude might help me.
After I had been there a week or two, I was sitting in the Plaza reading one day, when a stranger came up to me and we commenced to discuss different subjects. During our conversation I mentioned that I was in the city because of severe lung trouble and he said, "Why do you not try Christian Science?" He then tried to explain it to me, but I could not understand it at all, and after leaving him gave the subject no more thought until about a week later, when I received a letter from a very dear friend at home asking me to try Christian Science, feeling sure that I would be benefited, as she had been healed of the same disease. I then started to read the text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. At first I could not understand much of what I read, but I soon became so interested that I could hardly drop the book, and I knew that I had found the truth.
I called on a practitioner, and was relieved of a severe pain in my right ear in the first treatment, and of course this demonstration convinced me somewhat. I then took treatment for my lungs, and in about six weeks I began to improve very rapidly. I wished to see Denver, Col., so I went to that city and stayed six weeks longer, still continuing treatment and getting better and better. While in Denver I was relieved of a very severe attack of pleurisy in one treatment, by using Science to the best of my knowledge, and I have never been troubled in this way since. I then decided to return to Wisconsin, as all fear of climate was now destroyed and I felt sure that I would soon be entirely healed. My friends were greatly surprised to see me return so soon. They said that it was the change of climate which had improved my health so much, and when I said that it was Christian Science they would not believe me.
