I have been benefited much by reading the testimonies in both the Journal and Sentinel, and want others to know what the application of the teaching of Christian Science has done for me. In the fall of 1910 I became afflicted with stomach trouble to such a degree that I had to quit work, for the doctors treated me with no results. I tried different remedies supposed to be cures for my malady, but nothing helped me, and I gradually grew worse. I could not eat or drink without great distress; my stomach was said to be ulcerated, my liver and kidneys were very bad, and I was greatly reduced in weight.
My wife and children had been helped in Christian Science at different times, but I had never tried it myself. As a last resort, however, nothing else having done me any good, I decided to try it. I was slow in realizing the truth; I was down so low that I thought there was nothing to work on. But as I gradually grew to understand the truth, that divine Love was doing the work, I began to get better, and about five months from the time I was taken down I went to work, digging ditches and grading the street, and have kept steadily at it. I had been using tobacco for over twenty years, but all desire for it has left me; also the use of profane language.
