Testimonies of Healing

For some time it has been my desire...

From the September 1913 issue of The Christian Science Journal

For some time it has been my desire, and I believe my duty, to tell what Christian Science has done for me and mine. This great truth has been demonstrated several times in our home. About eleven years ago our little boy became very ill. We called a doctor, who did everything in his power, but finally said he could do no more for the child. In my great distress I did not know what to do, but I had heard of so many who had been healed through Christian Science, that I turned to it for relief and sent for a practitioner. Although the child seemed nearly gone, yet through the power of divine Love he awoke in a few hours, feeling much better, and in a short time was perfectly well, remaining so ever since.

Often when our loved ones are well and happy and everything about us is harmonious, we forget to give praise to our loving Father, who is the source of all life, love, and joy, and I am sorry to say that for some years after this beautiful demonstration I did not take serious interest in Christian Science, did not even take kindly to its teachings, because of the opposition of relatives and neighbors. In the fall of 1911 my husband passed away, leaving me with nine children, the eldest fourteen, and without means of support; but even in this trial divine Love was very near, so near that I must pause and in deep humility acknowledge God's tenderness, for when there seemed to be no way He made a way.

Soon after this, my three-year-old child fell through the loft in the barn and seriously injured her hip. I was away from home at the time, and when I returned I found that the leg was badly swollen. I did all I could to quiet her, but for twenty-four hours she cried with pain. It was then that I again turned to Christian Science for relief. I sent my eldest child to a neighbor's to ask them to telephone to a practitioner who lived at Fargo, N. Dak., and to my great relief and astonishment in twenty minutes the child was quietly asleep and slept all night. The healing was slow, however, and when the swelling went down I discovered that the kneecap had been twisted to one side. The hipjoint soon went back into place under the influence of Truth, but the kneecap seemed more stubborn. It finally yielded, however, and was replaced perfectly, without the aid of human hands.
