Testimonies of Healing

In August, 1911, while in perfect...

From the September 1913 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In August, 1911, while in perfect health, I was suddenly stricken unconscious and fell down stairs. When I regained consciousness, my right side, from head to foot, seemed terribly bruised and in great pain, but I rose to my feet, giving no heed to the body, and declared the truth constantly, until I was able to begin the study of our Lesson-Sermon. I read on until I came to this verse from Isaiah, "For I the Lord thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee." With the realization that God was holding my hand all pain left me, although to material sense I seemed to be seriously injured. In less than two hours after the accident I helped to prepare lunch and partook of it with the family.

In the afternoon, after reading Science and Health for some time, I called a neighbor Scientist, and in telling her of the accident, thus allowing thought to rest on the body for the moment, I almost fainted away; but I at once turned my thought steadfastly to God, declaring man's sonship with Him, and was speedily enabled to attend to my household duties. This experience was to me a convincing proof of the healing power of divine Love. The right shoulder was badly bruised and the ribs seemed to be injured, but I had no pain when I looked "away from the body into Truth and Love" (Science and Health, p. 261). To me this experience brought a deep lesson. It taught me to keep thought at all times in harmony with divine Mind.

For this help, as well as for unnumbered blessings that have been mine through the study of the Bible and Science and Health, I am deeply grateful to God, and also thankful to our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy. I must not forget to add my appreciation of and gratitude to our faithful workers at headquarters, for the first time I attended communion service at The Mother Church in June, 1903, what impressed me more than all else was the unselfish work done by them.—
