I turned to Christian Science over twenty years ago to find relief from a distressing disease of the eyeballs. I had had treatment for seven years from several doctors, but they could give me no permanent relief. As soon as one ulcer would break and heal, others would form. I then went to the most famous oculist in Canada at that time, who told me that I had rheumatism. He said that the disease had become chronic; that it was of a relapsing nature and could not be permanently cured. For four years after this I suffered as he had said I would, for the trouble would come back every little while. A friend who was a medical nurse, was healed through Christian Science and advised me to try it. I did so, with the result that I was healed in a few weeks, and have had no return of the ulcers since. I then began to read Science and Health, and when the Christian Science church was organized here, I joined it.
Over two years ago I had a severe illness due to congestion of the lungs, but through the faithful work of a practitioner I was healed. I also learned a needed lesson, for I came to understand the meaning of that sentence from Science and Health, "Trials are proofs of God's care" (p. 66). I was not adding oil daily to my lamp. I am very grateful for the experience and for the spiritual awakening it brought to me. I am learning the wisdom of seeking first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and letting other things follow as a result of right thinking. — Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
