We are taught in Christian Science that gratitude is a very important feature, and that showing our gratitude for the blessings already received, enables us to receive more. I want to show my sincere gratitude by the giving of this testimony of the many demonstrations we have had in the raising of our baby. I hope it will help some mother who is relying on the great Physician for help in bringing up her children.
When my baby was about four weeks old, we noticed that one side of his neck was hard like a bone, and there was considerable surplus skin and a small lump. I took him to see a Christian Science practitioner in a few days, and explained the condition to her. She immediately took up treatment, telling me not to watch the symptoms too closely, but occasionally to report to her, and to have no fear, but to know that my baby could reflect only the truth of being. I did as she told me, and while at first I had some fear as to the outcome, being a beginner in Science, this was eliminated by seeing the child growing fat and hearty each day, for this showed me the trouble was not in any way affecting his general health. After about twenty-six treatments had been given, my husband called up the practitioner to report that the lump was softer but to mortal sense was still there. She said she felt the work was done, and that no more treatments were necessary, but for us to know that God's perfect work would be made manifest. I did not look at my baby's neck again for about a week, but one morning, as I was giving him his bath, I examined it, and was very happy to see that the discordant manifestation had entirely vanished and his neck was perfectly normal.
On another occasion my baby played several hours with a child who had the whooping-cough and was coughing hard all the time they were together. I called up the Christian Science practitioner to tell her about it, and she told me just to know there is no contagion in divine Mind. I am thankful to say my son did not take the ailment. He never had any trouble while cutting his teeth, except that for a few days he was a little cross, when several of the larger ones were coming through together. Several times, in case of a cold, I have asked for treatment for him, and the ailment soon disappeared to its native nothingness, usually in a surprisingly short time. He is now past three years of age and has never had a drop of medicine, but is an unusually strong, healthy child.
