Testimonies of Healing

[Translated from the German]

It has long been my desire to...

From the December 1914 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It has long been my desire to express publicly my gratitude for all the good which has come to us through Christian Science during the last seven years. If I were to write about it all, it would fill a book. During these years and in times of need, God has been our only physician and helper. Cases of acute lung trouble, diabetes, whooping-cough, infantile paralysis, gall-stones, and other ailments were healed through treatment in Christian Science, and relief was obtained in childbirth. Speaking for myself, I suffered for two years from gall-stones, and underwent treatment from three physicians, all of whom were very friendly and conscientious men. The first prescribed a household remedy, the second expected to dissolve the stones through drugging, and the third advised the use of opiates or else an operation. I tried everything except the operation, as I felt that I could not submit to it. In our extremity, however, God proved to be an ever-present help.

Our attention was first called to Christian Science by an acquaintance of ours, and soon afterward, upon being taken severely ill, I asked my husband to send for a Christian Science practitioner who was just then visiting in our vicinity. She came the next day, and I was quickly relieved of the pain. This was in the spring, but in the fall the trouble manifested itself again, — as I now know through my own fear, — and I again asked for treatment in Christian Science. I was quickly healed, and have been free from the trouble ever since. This was in 1906. I was taken ill with acute lung trouble twice. The first time we knew nothing of Christian Science, and I was under the physician's care. I stayed two weeks in bed, and the recovery was very slow. The second time, six years ago, we were traveling, and I was seized with the trouble in Chicago at a hotel. This time I had Christian Science treatment and was able to continue my journey on the third day.

We daily realize more and more how much we owe to our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for her constant labor of love, and also for the privilege that our German brethren now have in the shape of a German version of Science and Health. There is neither church nor society in our vicinity, but we read the Lesson-Sermon daily, and unite on Sunday mornings for a service in our home. I would also mention that I joined The Mother Church last year. —
