In childhood I had a very severe attack of scarlet fever, which was supposed to have left my throat and nose in a serious condition, and from that time until seventeen years ago, when Christian Science was first brought into our home through the healing of a sister, I was constantly under the care of the best throat and lung specialists of Cleveland, Ohio. One of these told me that my lungs were in a most serious condition, as I had begun to have hemorrhages whenever I coughed; therefore when I saw my sister healed I began to study Science and Health, and also to attend the Christian Science services.
I kept this up for several years and my general health was much improved, but after a time I was quite ill and went back to doctors for three years, during which time I was most miserable and suffered agonies untold. I was simply forced to seek my Father's house, but I did not find it so easily as I did the first time, for the fear of death had taken hold of me. However, I started to study with all my heart and was wonderfully sustained, although my healing did not take place until three years afterward. One day, while studying the Lesson-Sermon, I came across these words in Science and Health: "To infinite, ever-present Love, all is Love, and there is no error, no sin, sickness, nor death. Against Love, the dragon warreth not long, for he is killed by the divine Principle" (p. 567). Then the thought came to me, What is it that "the dragon warreth not long" against? for I knew it had warred a long time with me. I then saw that it was the understanding of divine Love, so I began to declare the truth, and to realize in some degree that infinite Love fills all space. I declared the omnipotence and omnipresence of Love over and over again all that day, for I was alone, and that night I felt a change come into my consciousness,—I knew that I was well!
This was over eight years ago, and I have been well ever since and am said to be a picture of health. Everything that I have I owe to Christian Science, and I am not able to express my gratitude.— Riverside, Cal.
