Christian Science found me in a very wretched condition, for I had suffered a great many years from a weakness which had developed into what is known as tuberculosis of the spine. I wore steel braces for over five years and lived as much as possible according to the physical rules of health. Two years previous to coming into Science I was treated by two different systems, but at the end of that time, all experiments having failed, I was confined almost exclusively to my bed. Breathing was very difficult, so that talking was practically impossible, and I could be up but a very short while at a time, if at all. Knowing of no possible escape from this condition, I indeed felt very miserable, and suffered untold pains unceasingly.
When Christian Science reached me in May, 1911, I was twenty years old. After two weeks' treatment I was able to continue the work for myself, with the understanding that the practitioner could be called whenever other help was needed. There was improvement immediately, and a continued gain right along, so that by the end of the year I could get around the house without the support of the braces. The next year the improvement was so great that in the spring of 1913 I took my first trip into the country on a bicycle, and am now free from all disease, with much to be grateful for.
