A few years ago I was critically ill with typhoid fever. Being Christian Scientists, both my husband and I worked very earnestly, according to our understanding, but I grew worse. I suffered from nausea and had much fever and pain. We thought it wise to get help, as we did not seem to be able to meet the case, so my husband telephoned to a practitioner and asked her to come to the house as soon as possible. When she arrived I was hardly able to speak, but she talked a few minutes and gave me a treatment, telling my husband to read selections from "Science and Health, with Key to the Scriptures" and from "Miscellaneous Writings." Before she left, I was able to get out of bed and sit up.
The practitioner stayed with me less than an hour, and within half an hour after she went I was able to go to the telephone and tell her I was healed. I had been ill nearly two weeks. It might seem that I would be weak, but I was not. I had three or four treatments in all. I think I had the first one on Tuesday, and on Friday I was able to dress and go out. The following Sunday I attended the Christian Science services. To me this healing seemed a miracle. Moreover, I was spiritually healed, and so happy that I had lost all sense of fear. My husband also rejoiced over this instantaneous healing.
I have been helped in many ways in bringing harmony into our family. A growth which I had had for several years was removed, but the place was very painful. When having Christian Science treatment for another difficulty, I went to the telephone to tell the practitioner of this condition, but I could not reach her. The thought then came to me that I had asked her to help me and this also would be taken care of. That night after I had retired the place seemed very painful, but I tried to realize that there was no pain in truth or truth in pain, and began to say the "scientific statement of being" (Science and Health, p. 468). By the time I had finished, the pain had ceased. I am trying each day to be a loyal and obedient student of Christian Science.— Little Rock, Ark.
