When Christian Science found me, I had been a sufferer for over eight years from a complication of diseases, one of which was a bad form of spinal trouble considered incurable by materia medica. Two years ago, before coming into Science, I underwent an operation, which did not prove successful, and I kept failing until I was in a very weak condition. Finally I was taken ill with a bad attack of ptomaine poisoning. I was unable to retain nourishment of any kind; my sight left me, also my voice, and I was unconscious for forty-three hours. Six of the most prominent physicians in the city diagnosed my case, and they undoubtedly did the best they could, but without avail. They gave me up to die, and told my husband there was nothing in medical science that would help me.
My mother had come to our home to be at my bedside. Although not a Christian Scientist, she believed in the power of God, and that earnest prayer would be answered. While asking God's guidance in my behalf, an impression came to her that led her to seek help for me in Christian Science. Accordingly a practitioner was called, and with the first treatment, which was an absent one, I received great benefit. Four days later the nurse was dismissed, and nine days later I was up and partook of a Thanksgiving dinner with guests in my home. I remember that the practitioner's first words to me were that God is Life, Truth, and Love; and when I was able to read Science and Health, she impressed upon me that I must be honest with God and myself. I can now see that by striving to be honest with God and myself, I received perfect healing and was restored to health and happiness.
Aside from the physical healing, I am most grateful for the spiritual uplift; and my aim is to live Christian Science, not in words only, but in deeds, to love God more, and my neighbor as myself.
