Testimonies of Healing

[Translated from the French]

Three years ago my attention was...

From the June 1915 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Three years ago my attention was first drawn to Christian Science as the result of a wonderful proof of the regenerating and healing power of God experienced in the case of my sister-in-law, who was healed of general paralysis. However, it was not until later that we really became interested in this Science, through which many benefits have accrued to us. I am thinking more especially of an attack of typhoid fever, with which my wife was taken while in Egypt, and which became complicated by hemorrhages. At this juncture I wrote to my sister-in-law, asking her to apply to a practitioner for treatment for my wife. An improvement soon manifested itself, followed by the complete disappearance of the disease, and though yet in a weakened condition, my wife was able to resume her occupations.

As for myself, I asked for absent treatment against carbuncles and a similar ailment which caused me great suffering. This experience proved to be the means by which the desire was awakened in me to know more of God and to study the inspired teachings of Mrs. Eddy. Last spring (1914) my wife came to Geneva, where she expected to give birth to a child, and in view of her condition she had absent treatment during her journey from Egypt to Switzerland, and thereby experienced greater comfort. The birth took place, and later on the physicians told me that, considering the very difficult nature of the case which presented itself, all had gone well, as the child was rarely born alive in cases such as hers. It is therefore with a sense of most sincere gratitude that I am telling of this convincing proof of the ever present power of God, good. My wife had no fever, recovered rapidly, and the child is a fine baby, which we are bringing up in strict accordance with the teachings of Christian Science. Although I am son and brother of medical men, I do not resort to the methods of materia medica, and believe that I have every reason to congratulate myself.

Other demonstrations have brought additional light and have helped our spiritual progress. I was a smoker, but the habit left me, and when on one single occasion the desire seemed to get hold of me again, a sense of nausea made me realize the error into which I was falling. I had also worn glasses since my school-days, my sight being weak. One day the practitioner explained to me that man's sight is spiritual and not material, consequently that I did not need to wear glasses, whereupon I laid them off, and from that time on, to my great satisfaction, my sight has been growing stronger with every day, so that I feel certain that it will become perfect as I go on.
