I AM anxious to acknowledge my healing through Christian Science of what at the time was called lung trouble of a quickly developing nature; and the illness certainly was as quickly developed as it was complicated and terrible. The healing, which took place over fifteen years ago, when I was fourteen years of age, was accomplished in six weeks, with the one exception of rugged strength; but later this too came naturally and beautifully.
No one who saw me at that time (including my parents) ever thought it possible that I could be healed, as a brother had passed on the year before from the same disease, although he had not only consulted the best specialist in our town but had also visited and consulted at a medical college outside the town. Just one year after his demise I was attacked with the same disease, only in a more aggravated form. We heard of Christian Science through an old friend, and wrote to a practitioner, but from the beginning of my illness until health was fully reestablished, I never saw the lady who was treating me, and the only means of communication was by letter.
At the time Christian Science treatment was begun I had dropsy in a dreadful form, and the recalling of that experience is a reminder of how good God has been and constantly is to me. A catarrhal condition was so aggravated that the bridge of my nose was affected. The cords in my arms and legs were so contracted that I could with difficulty touch my toe, but not my heel, to the floor, and my arms and legs were both drawn and stiff. I could not speak above a whisper, and could hear only with one ear. It is not possible to write of the many terrible symptoms manifested, but I can say that since turning to Christian Science for help no medicine has been taken, and that I would not be alive today had it not been for the practitioner's faithfulness and understanding of God as Life, Truth, and Love, as we are taught in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy.
