My first experience with Christian Science was the instantaneous healing of a badly injured ankle, from which I had suffered intensely for three days. I knew nothing about Christian Science at the time, but was persuaded by a friend to try it and so called up a practitioner. Absent treatment was immediately given, and I was so astonished and pleased with the result that I immediately began to study Science and Health and to attend the church services, as I wanted to know how this wonderful healing was accomplished. For years I had been a member of an orthodox church, but the Wednesday following my healing I went to the service at the Christian Science church, and in almost, eight years have not missed a service when it was possible for me to attend.
Since this healing Christian Science has been my only help in all kinds of discord. I have been healed of rheumatism, from which I had suffered almost constantly for thirteen years, of the effects of a severe burn, of a throat affection, and of colds, which occurred frequently. As the result of rheumatism, my left hand was crippled for about fifteen years, the fingers being drawn up inside so that I could not straighten them, and several surgeons had assured me that nothing could ever be done for this condition. Some two years after beginning the study of Christian Science, I suddenly discovered that the hand was entirely normal, but I do not know when it was healed or how long I had been using it.
I am very grateful for the privilege of membership in The Mother Church, also for class instruction, which it was my great pleasure to have some years ago. I am obliged to work for my living, and cannot express my gratitude for the good health I now have. I have never turned to Christian Science for help in any discord, whether mental, physical, or financial, that the need has not been met. I took up the study of Christian Science solely for the physical healing, but the spiritual help has been worth far more.— Atchison, Kan.
