I wish to express my deep felt gratitude for an instance of very quick healing which I had the privilege of experiencing last autumn through Christian Science. While picking heather I felt a sharp sting, though the cause was not discovered. I declared the truth and paid no further attention to the matter, as the pain disappeared in the course of the evening. A few days later, however, small blisters appeared where I had been stung, and these spread until finally they affected the arm. Having experienced the healing power of Christian Science repeatedly, I abstained from calling in a physician, and hoped that through adhering to the truth I might be able to overcome the discordant condition. Just then a guest from a distance was expected at our home, and there being a fear of contagion, I finally summoned a physician, who relieved my apprehension in that direction and, upon the wish of my relatives who are not Scientists, took charge of the case. Instead of improving, the trouble became aggravated, and I was unable to sleep on account of the burning and painful sensation. New remedies were prescribed every day, and I took opiates, which, however, did not have the desired effect. A red stripe extended up to the armpit, and there were similar symptoms on the ear, on the other hand, and on one foot, besides which I had fever.
This was the condition in which my daughter, who is a Christian Scientist, found me when she arrived on a visit, suspecting nothing. I would have written to her about my trouble had I not been expecting her daily for a week. She informed the physician, who appeared soon after her arrival, that she would take me with her to Hamburg, to which he agreed. Then she telephoned to a Christian, Science practitioner, asking her to treat me. In the evening we started for Hamburg, where I arrived feeling very miserable and feverish. I had to be put to bed immediately, and then received Christian Science treatment. In about half an hour I fell into a quiet and sound sleep, lasting all night, and the next morning the fever had gone, though the struggle continued for another two days, after which, to our deepest gratitude, the healing began to take place. All heat and swelling disappeared, and there was a steady improvement.
Considering that I am eighty years of age, the case was a very serious one; but we know that "God is no respecter of persons" and knows naught of age. I give thanks unto Him from the depths of my heart for having been led to Christian Science. I live in a locality where no Christian Science services are held, and therefore rejoice at every opportunity afforded me to attend them, as, for instance, when I am in Hamburg. I am also very grateful for the literature, and am striving to use the days of my abode here for growth in the understanding of Truth.—Geesthacht near Hamburg, Germany.
