One evening a number of us started to call on some friends. The road was very icy, and before we had gone half a mile the sleigh began to slide from one side to the other. The horses became frightened, and as they broke away from the sleigh we were all thrown out; I was stunned for a few minutes, but when consciousness was regained I realized clearly that God is All-in-all and there is no power apart from Him; that "accidents are unknown to God" (Science and Health, p. 424). My husband and cousin helped me, so that we were able to make our way back safely, my cousin and I declaring the truth constantly.
When we reached home my husband insisted upon calling a Christian Science practitioner, and thinking some sense of fear might have arisen in his thought, I consented. The practitioner kindly realized the truth for me, and no pain or fear was experienced, even from the beginning, although there seemed to be a sense of discomfort because one eye was terribly swollen and there was a cut about two inches long below it. During the night I awakened and error tried to tempt me to believe that the eye would never open, but I was abiding in the conciousness of God's allness and was not afraid. This was on Friday; the following Wednesday the cut was healed, and that evening I took charge of the meeting as usual. By Sunday there was no evidence of the injury whatever.
Before coming into Science six years ago I was discontented and dissatisfied, finding fault with every one except myself; but through daily study of the Bible, together with our text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, I feel some progress has been made. A disagreeable disposition has been overcome, our home is peaceful and harmonious, and more gratitude is felt for God's infinite goodness to all. I am truly grateful to our dear Leader for the wonderful text-book which is making the Bible an open book for all to read and understand.—Silver Creek, N. Y.
