In May, 1915, I was taken with shortness of breath, and a swelling of the feet which gradually extended into the abdomen, leaving the feet and legs very sore and hard, so that I could walk only a few steps, and that with pain and difficulty. One doctor said that the shortness of breath was due to heart, trouble, while another pronounced the swelling dropsy. I was told that nothing would cure me, and neighbors had given me up.
My daughter took me to Dallas, Texas, where we stopped in the home of a Christian Scientist. That was a great help to me, for the first morning I was there I resolved to give up material means and rely upon Truth for cure. More than one practitioner gave me help, for which I am deeply grateful. A few days after my return home a Christian Science lecture was given here, and my daughter took me to it. I was worse than ever that evening, but was helped on and off the wagon and up and down the steps of the church. I heard some of the lecture, and the spiritual uplift to us both brought the long sought blessing, for when I reached home I was healed. I jumped off the wagon without any help and walked into the house unaided. The heart trouble and the swelling disappeared the night of the lecture, and within a few days strength came. Now I am walking all over the town to any place I desire to go, whereas for about six months I had been unable to walk.
We rejoice in the healing power of Truth, and thank God for Christian Science and what it has meant in our spiritual effort for the understanding of Truth. The neighbors never question my healing, but all seem to realize that to God belongs the glory. We thank God for the Christian Science periodicals, the lectures, and the church services, all of which are helping humanity out of the darkness into which mortal mind has plunged it.—Texarkana, Ark.
