Although I have often expressed my gratitude for Christian Science at our Wednesday evening meetings, I wish to cancel an account of apathy, lethargy, or procrastination, through the periodicals which our Leader so wisely provided. The object of my investigation of Christian Science was physical healing. From childhood, stomach and bowel trouble seemed the most prominent part of my existence, finally developing into appendicitis, for relief from which, our family physician informed me, an immediate operation was necessary. I, however, refused relief by such means.
It was at this time that Christian Science was brought to my notice, and arrangements were made for me to meet a practitioner. In two weeks' treatment I was completely healed, and these ills have never returned in the ten years that have since elapsed. In the course of these treatments and the explanations of the truth of being according to Christian Science I not only learned how I got well and the permanency of health, but also how to make this practical religion applicable to every affair of my existence; and I learned then, for the first time, of a God who is indeed an ever present help in trouble.
A true knowledge of this all-loving God and of man's relationship to Him dispelled a morbid grief of several years' standing. I learned that God is truly the only Father, and that no one can be outside His ever presence, since God is divine Principle. Through an ever increasing effort to abide in Truth, I have also been healed of supposedly hereditary sick headaches, a morbid disposition, and temper. We have a small daughter, seven years old, who has been taught to apply her knowledge of God's protecting care, and she rarely asks for help from either of her parents.
