It is with deep gratitude for Christian Science...

From the December 1918 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It is with deep gratitude for Christian Science that I send my testimony of healing. On page 597 of Science and Health we find the definition of the word wilderness: "Loneliness; doubt; darkness." About two years and a half ago I found myself in the wilderness of loneliness, doubt, and darkness. My husband left me to take a short business trip to Europe, sailing on the "Lusitania," and never returned. My despair could not be expressed in words. I hated God one minute, and was afraid to hate Him the next for fear of a worse punishment; but I was not willing to go on loving a God who, as I then believed, made innocent hearts suffer for the faults of others. After two months of misery a loving friend recommended that I read Science and Health. Then came the revelation: and when, through the teachings of Christian Science, I began to understand God aright, harmony was restored.

I had been a sufferer from stomach trouble all my life. Many physicians had treated me, but I never received any lasting help. According to the doctors I had what is called nervous indigestion, and at this particular time my stomach caused me great distress. While reading Science and Health and reaching out for the truth that makes men free from sin, sickness, and death, I was absolutely healed. I do not know when the healing came; but I do know how,—it was through the realization of the allness of God, Spirit, and that man is made in His image and likeness. About six months later I was called upon to take the place of a mother to two loving children whose mother had passed on, and Christian Science had prepared me for this undertaking. Words are inadequate to express my gratitude for all that the right understanding of God has done and is doing for me, and I daily pray that I may so live as to be more worthy of the name Christian Scientist.—
