The testimonies in the Journal have been such a help to me that I can no longer withhold my pæan of gratitude. It was in 1907 that I first heard of Christian Science, and out of curiosity went to a Sunday morning service at a seaside town, where I happened to be staying at the time. From that day my life completely changed, and I was as one born again. Up to this time I had given up all religion and never said a prayer. My life was spent in a whirl of gaiety and excitement, looking for happiness in every conceivable pleasure, until I sank both physically and morally. After reading the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, I was able to lay aside glasses I had worn for twelve years, having previously consulted some of the best oculists in London. I had suffered from severe sick headaches and swollen eyes that kept me in bed for days. A friend once said to me, after exclamations of surprise at my changed mode of life, "I am afraid you have to give up a lot of things when you become a Christian Scientist." I said, "Yes, I have given up a lot—glasses, bad headaches, nervous irritability, a hot temper, selfishness, and sensuality."
The spiritual uplift and wondrous sense of God's love that has come into my life fills me with the deepest gratitude to Mrs. Eddy, whose purity enabled her to give this beautiful truth to the world, lifting the burden of sin and sickness from mankind. My home has been changed from a place of discord to one of peace and happiness through this divine influence. I have had the privilege of class instruction, and am trying as far as I can to show forth praise to God not only with my lips but in my life.— Richmond, Surrey, England.
