For the past seventeen years we have been relying wholly on God. Many years ago there was said to be no hope left for my husband, who was then trying in vain to recover from an attack of pneumonia. He also suffered from a running sore in his ear which, according to the verdict of renowned physicians, was incurable. They warned us that the slightest neglect in watching weather conditions and in applying the treatment prescribed might cause his death. It was extreme fear that drove us to Christian Science.
A very short time after Christian Science treatment was begun, the abscess in my husband's ear was completely healed, and instead of fearing wind or weather, or being anxious that a certain amount of clothing should be worn, we went out in any kind of weather. I began to see that the fear with which the well-meaning doctors had filled me was a great hindrance to the recovery of my husband, instead of a help. I therefore studied assiduously the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and without special effort,—in fact by completely forgetting self,—bronchitis, hoarseness, and a cough, which had troubled me for years, disappeared, in spite of the fact that specialists had declared these ailments would never yield so long as we lived in Chicago, which is situated on a lake.
