A Few years ago while walking down one of our principal streets, I fell into conversation with a stranger, who gave me an invitation to attend a Wednesday evening meeting at the Christian Science church. Knowing nothing about this religion and its adherents, I went so as to satisfy my curiosity. To say I was surprised at some of the testimonies given is putting it mildly; but I was also astonished that such a movement existed without my knowing anything about it. When leaving I was given some literature to read, and it did not take me long to find out that Christian Science, being based upon divine Principle, must heal all manner of disease.
At that time I was afflicted with some form of blood poisoning, from which I suffered in various ways. I had been treated by prominent physicians for over two years; but the remedies employed appeared to have more disastrous effects than the disease. I had quit taking them, and had given up all hope of ever getting well, when Christian Science was presented to me in such an unexpected manner. I went to a practitioner for help, and began to study Science and Health, also the Bible. I studied a long time before I began to realize that God is Love, and that man is His idea; but gradually I commenced to see and understand the perfection of His creation, and as I did so the ailments began to disappear.
After about a year's study and a good many treatments, some eruptions seemed to get worse, and error tried to persuade me that I would do better to return to material remedies. The voice of Truth, however, told me to have faith in God. Looking backward I could see nothing but darkness, and seeing that some progress had been made I gained new hope, so pressed forward with more earnest desire, reading, studying, and praying to God for enlightenment. My endeavors have been rewarded with success, and to-day I can truly say that I am healed of the disease mentioned, also of sleeplessness, stomach disorder, chronic bowel trouble, corns, as well as of using profane language and indulging in other bad habits. Christian Science has in fact made a new man of me. It is with deep gratitude to Mrs. Eddy that I tell the world the cause of my wonderful regeneration.
