I wish to express my gratitude for what Christian Science has done for me and for my family. I did not take up the study of it for physical healing. For twenty-eight years I had been a member of an orthodox church, but I became very much unsettled in thought. After reading Science and Health and other Christian Science literature, I was convinced this was the truth; for it gave me a better understanding of God, of man's relationship to Him, and taught me how to live in accordance with the law of loving Him supremely and my neighbor as myself . Through the reading of Science and Health I was healed of stomach and bowel trouble. My husband was healed of rheumatism in one treatment, after suffering more than a year under medical treatment. Other troubles have been overcome with the loving help of a practitioner.
My son was stricken suddenly and very severely while at work. A physician was summoned and diagnosed the case as acute appendicitis. The news came to me over the telephone, but not the name of the disease. I had been a student of Christian Science only a short time, and was so filled with fear that I called on a practitioner for help to overcome it. My son was not interested in Science and did not know much about it, except that it healed disease. In a few hours he was brought home, and when I asked what treatment he desired he chose Christian Science. I immediately telephoned the practitioner and she took the case. This occurred on Saturday morning, and she did not see him until Sunday evening. At that time the pain was gone, but soreness and high temperature remained. The next day the physician, accompanied by one of the leading surgeons of Trenton, New Jersey, examined my son and agreed that the diagnosis was correct and that he should be operated upon that day. On being told we were Christian Scientists the surgeon said, "He will not live two days if he is not operated on." When my husband came home shortly after that, I told him what had occurred. We then called the practitioner, telling her the case as it stood, and she said we must make our own choice; when we said that we would trust in God, she assured us that she would stand by us in realizing the all-power of Truth and Love. In three days my son was sitting up, and in three weeks he went back to work. During the five years since his healing there have been no recurrences, proving that God does all things well.
I am very grateful for this saving truth as explained in Science and Health, which makes the Bible better loved and understood; also grateful to those who stood with us in our dark hours and pointed the way to the light. Above all I rejoice in the spiritual understanding that is being unfolded in my consciousness.— Morrisville, Pa.
