Testimonies of Healing

Having received so much good...

From the June 1918 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Having received so much good from the testimonies of others in the Sentinel and the Journal, I appreciate the privilege of writing of some of the blessings which have come into my life through Christian Science, in the hope that others may be encouraged as I have been on the journey from sense to Soul. I have been interested in religious matters since childhood, my mother being a devout Christian. In girlhood I became a member of a so-called orthodox church, and for some years found peace and joy through many proofs of God's love and care. My ill health and that of my mother—for years an invalid, suffering much but resigned to what she believed was God's will—led me to question why prayers for healing were so commonly unanswered. The explanation generally given was far from satisfactory or convincing.

About this time Christian Science was brought to our attention through the healing of a friend, and her consistent life of loving deeds through many years finally led to my becoming really interested in this religion enough to read the literature she so kindly loaned me. Then we moved to another state, where once more it was presented to us, and through the loving ministrations of a dear friend and neighbor who was a Christian Scientist, I was healed of a sudden severe illness. The relief from suffering was great, complete, but the spiritual uplift and impulse was far greater and more precious, for it led me to take up in earnest the study of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. I am especially grateful for the illumination of the Scriptures through the study of our textbook in connection with them, as in the Lesson-Sermons.

The years since my coming into Christian Science have brought many proofs of the power of Truth to overcome discord of whatever name or nature in our home, and not the least cause for gratitude is the awakening interest in Christian Science shown by our loved ones. During the past eight years we have enjoyed and profited by the privileges of church attendance, the lectures, and the help of faithful practitioners when needed. In my own experience the beliefs of the carnal mind are disappearing into their native nothingness in proportion to my faithfulness and obedience to divine Principle. Words fail me to express my gratitude for the blessings which have come to me and mine and all the world through the life and labors of our dearly loved Leader, Mrs. Eddy.—
