Testimonies of Healing

With a heart overflowing with...

From the December 1919 issue of The Christian Science Journal

With a heart overflowing with gratitude, I should like to tell a little of what Christian Science has done for me. After years of searching and longing for the truth it came to me as a glorious revelation of the new heaven and the new earth. I am most grateful that it should have come at a time when I was at a loss to know what to teach the children. I could not teach them from the Bible, which I did not understand myself; but just when it seemed most needed, this beautiful truth was offered to me, and the children have grown up with it and have never known any other religious teaching. They rely on it in the working out of all their problems at school and at home.

The ways in which Christian Science has helped us are innumerable. One Wednesday evening five months ago at one of the London Churches of Christ, Scientist, a young officer gave a beautiful testimony, which impressed me very much. I went on my homeward way dwelling in the thought he had given out, but in getting off the bus I slipped and was thrown forward under one of the wheels. I felt the wheel mounting my shoulder, and longed to live for those that seemed to need me. I thought, "How can God save me?'' Then I was lifted out of all sense of mortal selfhood into a wonderful sense of light and life and strength. The wheel passed over my shoulder and my head, but in another moment I was standing upright on the pavement. The conductress of the bus was much distressed over the accident but I reassured her and the driver, and told them that if they would pick up my bags I would walk home, which I did, rejoicing all the way and filled with a great sense of gratitude and humility. By the time I reached home, the arm and shoulder seemed to be getting rather stiff and helpless, but I realized that Mind moves without any material accompaniments, and before I retired that night their condition was normal. On brushing my hair I discovered that quite a thick tress had been cut off by the wheel of the bus. My head was, however, quite unhurt and I rested peacefully that night. In the morning I went on a long round of literature distribution.

I give this testimony in the hope that it may help others, as the experience helped me, to realize the omnipotence and allness of God. My heart goes out in gratitude to our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, who was loving and courageous enough to stand by what she knew to be the truth and to give it to the world.—
