I want to acknowledge my blessings in honor of "Him whom to know aright is Life eternal'' (Science and Health, Pref., p. vii), and to express my gratitude to our revered Leader for enabling us to understand the words and works of Jesus of Nazareth. Christian Science was first presented to me many years ago, and at that time I memorized the "scientific statement of being," found on page 468 of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, neither realizing nor understanding its import or application. For many years i paid no attention to the wonderful truths taught by Christian Science. I did not feel that I needed help, but was constantly recommending Science for others and saw beautiful healings accomplished through its application; and I was almost always in possession of a copy of Science and Health, which I read occasionally or passed to some one who I thought needed it.
Finally my health began to fail and it became impossible for me to spend a summer in this climate without being confined to my bed from three to five weeks every spring. I had several physicians, tried different climates, and adhered strictly to a milk diet for some time, but all to no avail. While on a trip to Colorado I was told by a physician that I was suffering from intestinal poisoning. The following spring a physician told me I was suffering from a nervous collapse and said he could do nothing for me, but advised rest and quiet. I finally became so ill that I was no longer able to remain out of bed, and while lying there I decided that Christian Science was for me as well as for the many to whom I had recommended it. My husband went for a practitioner and I had one treatment. The next day I was able to be up. I even rode to the practitioner's office and had a talk with her, and more help. In one week I was completely healed. There has never been a return of the trouble or any of the symptoms, and I have spent many happy summers here since. Through the help of a practitioner I gained an understanding of how to study the Lesson-Sermons, so wisely provided for us by our Leader, also a clearer realization of the importance of applying what we know of Truth; and I became an earnest student of Christian Science. For twenty-five years I had worn glasses, but through the study of the textbook my eyes were entirely healed. I have also been healed of irritation of the bladder, from which I had suffered for many years.
I am grateful for membership in our local Christian Science church, also in The Mother Church, and for the privilege of class instruction. Each of these steps has helped me to gain more in spiritual understanding. I have witnessed many healings, and through the understanding of the ever operative power of Truth, given to the world by the unselfed labor of Mrs. Eddy, I have been able to demonstrate for myself and others the fact that Christian Science does heal and regenerate. — Muskogee, Okla.
